ARUSHA-TANZANIA
At a time when many young people are searching for quick success, Youth4Nature continues to demonstrate that lasting impact is built through learning, networking, and seizing opportunities.
In 2022, hundreds of young people from across Tanzania gathered in Arusha for the inaugural Youth4Nature Conference, a platform designed to connect youth with knowledge, mentorship, professional networks, and opportunities in conservation and environmental stewardship.
Among the participants was Angella, a young conservation enthusiast with ambitious career aspirations but limited clarity on how to turn those ambitions into reality.
As an attendee, she immersed herself in sessions led by conservation experts, researchers, filmmakers, and technology professionals who shared their experiences and insights on protecting biodiversity and advancing sustainable development.
According to Angella, the conference broadened her perspective and helped her recognize the significant role young people can play in addressing environmental challenges and shaping the future of conservation.
The experience became a turning point.
Shortly after the conference, Angella secured a six-month placement with WWF-Tanzania’s Southern Kenya-Northern Tanzania (SOKNOT) Programme, where she supported monitoring and evaluation activities for the Land for Life and REDAA projects.
The opportunity enabled her to strengthen her technical skills, gain practical experience, and expand the professional network she had begun building through Youth4Nature.
Her journey continued at Honeyguide Foundation, where she worked as a Data Analyst, applying modern data tools such as Power BI to support evidence-based decision-making in conservation initiatives.
Today, Angella serves as a Monitoring and Evaluation Coordinator at Kopelion, where she oversees project performance and supports the measurement of conservation outcomes across various programs.
While some may view her achievements as a matter of luck, Angella credits her progress to continuous learning, dedication, meaningful professional relationships, and the opportunities that emerged through Youth4Nature.
Her story reflects the broader impact of the platform, which has evolved beyond a youth conference into a bridge connecting young talent with real opportunities for employment, leadership, and professional growth within the conservation sector.
As preparations for the Youth4Nature Conference 2026 gain momentum, organizers are expected to bring together more than 300 participants and over 50 speakers from Tanzania and beyond, creating another opportunity to inspire and equip the next generation of conservation leaders.
This time, however, Angella will not be among those sitting in the audience. She will return as a speaker, representing Kopelion and sharing her journey with young people seeking to make a difference in conservation and environmental protection.
From an ordinary participant in 2022 to a featured speaker in 2026, Angella’s journey is a powerful reminder that meaningful success is rarely achieved overnight. Instead, it is built through persistence, learning, and making the most of opportunities when they arise.
For many young people, Youth4Nature continues to be the beginning of that journey.
